Light began spreading lazily from the east, gradually illuminating the dark clouds painted against the sky.
The field was covered with mist, looking like bits of smoke rising from each leaf of tobacco. The mist made the stable appear gray. No colors were yet discernable, not even the bright red X across the stable door. Adam was growing worried when three flashes came shining from the door.
He sprinted across the field toward the light. Behind the door was a dry area surrounded by bales of hay. There were smells of horse excrement mingled with the damp scent of rain. He saw Zoë getting up from a blanket in one of the corners. She was barefoot and her coat had been tossed onto a nearby haystack. A brown-skinned, bearded man appeared behind her. He sipped something out of a bottle covered with aluminum foil and stuffed a wad of bills into his shirt pocket. “Well, Hon, so this is m passenger?” He signaled to Adam to come over.

In many ways, this is a hard story to read. That said, it grabs you quickly. It was also hard at times to follow the story because, possibly, the kindle edition lacked some spacing. Nonetheless, the book felt authentic, the people real, and a book that I found hard to put down.Product details

Considering the fact that this novel was originally published in Hebrew, yet it is set in the southern United States, this is a particularly good novel with twists and turns unlike most novels from new novelists.
