Pleasantly surprised. Given the "visual" theme of the series I thought this would be a watered-down and dumbed-down "how to" on Dreamweaver, a program I used years ago in one of the earlier iterations. I was, thankfully, wrong in my expectations. The book did a great job, with an economy of words and some great screen-shots, of getting me up to speed on a relatively recent version of this definitive program. The book does have some bare-bones basics in it (eg, how to open Dreamweaver, PC and Mac), but with a quick glance at the index and text it also addressed some techniques that are more than a bit advanced, such as creating image maps and the requisite hyperlinks for parts of images. I guess what really swayed my (positive) impression is that I ddn't have to wade through paragraph upon paragraph of text that explained, in terms more complicated than I needed, how to "do the basics" -- and beyond.Product details

Adobe is continually proving difficult for some of us. I have a tough time with most of their products even tho they do some wonderful things. Thanks to the CSS and Visual series things are much improving, this book helped that.

This book has step-by-step instructions with a corresponding visual example. I find this book to be an excellent primer and resource book for Dreamweaver. Of course, just like with Photoshop, the real learning takes place when you actually use Dreamweaver and put into action what you have learned in the book.
Cons The visual examples are on the small side, so I needed to use a magnifying glass to get a better look. Despite this negative, I stick to my 5 Star rating.
For additional free Dreamweaver teaching videos, I use Adobe TV, Lynda, and Peachpit.
Good and helpful book series that I've found reliable before; look forward to reading this one.
I always love these types of books and turn to them when I get something new like a computer or software. As usual, the book helped a lot. The only thing I did not like about the book is it was hard seeing the examples of the images displayed. I had to use a magnifying glass.
I bought the Teach yourself Visually books for both Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Dreamweaver.
These book are great at teaching you how to use these programs. If you just follow the diagrams, you will be using the features the software offers in no time. They are easy to understand, and there is very liitle text, making it easy to follow along. I definately reccomend these books to anyone looking to learn the basics about Adobe Software.
I have used the "Teach Yourself Visually" series for Photoshop and found it very useful as was the dreamweaver text. The presentation is simple, straightforward, and the pictures really help. Pairing this with the dreamweaver missing manuel and the occasional google search have really helped me use the program. My only issue is that the pictures in the book could be a bit larger. The good news is that with a magnifying glass, the details of the screen shots are visible.
If you take a CIS college course in Dreamweaver, this book will prepare you for most of what you need to breeze through the class within two or three days of reading. All of the Visual learning books have been written to be easy to follow and helpful with their tips, and this is no exception. No matter what the topic, if you're a beginner who wants a quick heads up to most of what you need to know, you won't be disappointed in any of the "Teach Yourself Visually" books. There's more that exhaustive books will provide, but if you're like me, I don't want it "all" until after I've quickly learned the main things I need to understand what I'm learning. These books provide that.
